VDC was selected as the project landscape architect for a new 150 room lodge and spa on the historic Biltmore Estate. The proposed lodge straddles a ridge along a forest edge which opens into a rolling meadow. The design for the site had to embrace the wooded mountain setting leading the building's front entry while also creating comfortable outdoor spaces in an open, exposed meadow. Vision Design resolved the challenge by designing a series of landscape walls that create a striking contrast between the agricultural meadow and the lush outdoor living spaces. VDC's scope included design through construction documents for all outdoor spaces adjacent to the building including the main arrival court, grand lobby terrace, pool terrace with spa and overhead pergola structures, spa terrace including an outdoor fireplace, two spa pools, a tree-bosque lounge area, and water features.
